Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations - Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York - plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, including the Thompson House for rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and the Home Care organizations.

Summary:

Assists the pharmacist in the processing preparation, filling, and delivery of prescription orders. Assists in the maintenance of all drug storage areas. Varied duties include (but are not limited to) ordering, counting, and receiving inventory, the appropriate handling and stocking of drug products, and prescription record keeping. Heavy customer contact requiring excellent customer service skills while on the phone and directly at the point of sale.

Responsibilities:

Administration and Management:

A. demonstrates organizational skills, prioritizes and organizes workflow and demonstrates time management skills.

B. demonstrates knowledge and skills regarding 3rd party insurance carriers.

C. demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary in the identification of generic substitutions.

D. demonstrates knowledge and skills regarding the role of copayments, deductibles, and prescription plan parameters and restrictions.

Prescription Interpretation and Order Entry

A. demonstrates the ability to collect and/or update patient demographics for current health history, allergies and use of non-prescription products.

B. demonstrates the ability to identify and correctly interpret each component of the prescription or medication order including omissions.

C. demonstrates the ability to correctly enter the prescription or medication order into the pharmacy computer system.

D. demonstrates the ability to perform checking functions in accordance with professional standards.

General Drug Preparation

A. demonstrates the ability to correctly prepare medications.

B. demonstrates the ability to select the correct medication based on the order written.

C. demonstrates the ability to accurately label products according to legal requirements,

D. demonstrates the ability to identify appropriate precaution labels for each drug.

Drug Distribution

A. demonstrates the ability to adhere to drug distribution policies and procedures.

B. demonstrates the ability to perform appropriate inventory control of drug products.

C. demonstrates the ability to order drugs and supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels.

D. demonstrates the ability to identify and appropriately process expired, overstock, and recalled drugs.

Cash Register Management

A. demonstrates the ability to perform all cash register functions and provides all necessary daily reports to Finance.

B. demonstrates the ability to reconcile cash register discrepancies and prepare the daily deposit according to Finance and banking standards.

C. demonstrates the ability to notify and work with the appropriate vendor to resolve software and hardware issues.

Systems Management

A. Demonstrates the ability to perform all McKesson SMO functions - Class II Finalization, Ordering, Returns, Back-Ordering.

B. demonstrates the ability to utilize all office machines (e.g. fax, copier, etc).

C. demonstrates the ability to utilize all functions of the Kirby-Lester bar-code counter.

D. demonstrates the ability to contact the necessary vendor to trouble shoot and solve systems problem.

Report Generation

A. ensures the generation of all daily pharmacy reports as required by state and federal law.

B. demonstrates the ability to generate patient profiles when required in accordance with HIPPA standards.

C. demonstrates the ability to generate electronic signature logs as needed,

D. demonstrates the ability to provide all necessary financial reports as determined by the finance department.

Record-keeping

A. Files prescriptions in accordance with all state and federal laws.

B. properly organizes and labels file boxes as needed to store off-site.

C. submits information on -line as required by the clozapine access system.

D. properly files and labels all cash register transaction records in accordance with federal and state law.

Workflow

A. ensures all appropriate prescriptions are delivered in a timely fashion according to departmental standards.

B. ensures all appropriate prescriptions are time-stamped.

C. ensures all workable refills are inputted into the prescription queue.

D. manages refill authorizations and balance-owed areas.

Additional Responsibilities (if applicable)

A. assists with software and hardware upgrades of all applicable pharmacy systems.

B. Mentors and provides guidance to other Pharmacy Technicians.

C. resolves escalated problems related to prescription inquiries and billing.

D. orchestrates all technical aspects of the pharmacy operation to optimize workflow and ensures all technical duties are properly completed.

Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma and minimum of two+ years pharmacy related experience, Pharmacy Tech Registration (CT); National certification desirable.

Clean driving record. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and communicate effectively; maintain dress code standards and maintain a neat and clean appearance.

Basic computer knowledge; ability to operate automated pharmacy systems.
