We re searching for a Pharmacy Manager who serves as the practice leader/advocate for Pharmacy Department in order to accomplish organizational and departmental strategic goals and objectives. Coordinates services and provides leadership for designated area. Has 24 hour accountability for assigned area(s) rotating administrative and clinical call duties among the pharmacy administrative staff. Responsible for ensuring the effective, efficient and safe provision of pharmaceutical care for patients served by Children s Hospital. Actively takes a leadership role in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the operational and clinical activities of assigned areas, including staff development, multi-disciplinary committee participations, precepting pharmacy students/residents and clinical research.

Essential Functions

  • Defines operational standards, organizes department-level activities to achieve optimum service delivery/systems/care/processes, setting high performance objectives for the department. Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables and commitments, adhering to standards even in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
  • Effectively coordinates by planning, organizing, directing and controlling (in collaboration with other Pharmacy Managers/Director) operational and clinical services between centralized pharmacy and patient care.
  • Coordinates operational and clinical activities of the pharmacy department with other departments of the hospital. These include education, policy and procedure development/review and quality assurance activities. Actively participates in organization/department wide committees as assigned.
  • Provides appropriate drug information to the medical and professional staff with a special emphasis on pediatric therapeutics and cost-effectiveness. Reviews pharmacy/medical literature and disseminates pertinent information to the professional staff.
  • Directly provides specialized consultation with other healthcare professionals in development of drug-related treatment plans, assessment of drug therapy, outcomes and identification and resolution of drug-related problems.
  • Manages staff pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns, university-based clerkship students, and other support personnel. Responsible for evaluating and revising job description and competencies in accordance with departmental and hospital goals.

Personnel Management

  • Prioritizes and coordinates daily work activities. Provides leadership and guidance by sharing expertise with others. Approves schedules and monitors time worked.
  • Trains and/or oversees the training of employees on job related tasks.
  • Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment.
  • Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations).
  • May participate in selection, hiring, and salary recommendations.

Operational/Financial Management

  • Ensures cost effective use of resources by identifying and implementing changes related to staff allocation and assignment, and patient/department supplies.
  • Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies and recordkeeping standards.
  • May assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
  • May participate in the implementation of business plans for the area.
  • May assist with annual budget by tracking expenses and providing input for future budget needs.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in various clinical research protocols and ensures implementation, education and control of investigational drugs.
  • Based on departmental/organizational need may be required to participate in Transplant program functions
  • Performs pharmaceutical distributive and clinical functions upon request.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have excellent organization and communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or Pharm D. degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a hospital pharmacy required
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current and valid Nebraska Pharmacy license required.
