Responsibilities

Mercer University College of Pharmacy is seeking an outstanding leader to serve as the chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The College and the department are dedicated to excellence in teaching, professional and community service, and a growing research program. The departments portfolio of thirty faculty members, both clinical and research-intensive, includes clinicians embedded in a variety of practice settings, social administrative scientists, laboratory-based clinical-translational research, experiential education, and a network of over 500 practitioner preceptors.

Strong mentoring ability is a vital quality of the next chair. Leadership in curricular advancement to elevate student learning, achievement, and success outcomes is a key focus. The chair will oversee a budget of more than $4 million annually and be responsible for recruiting and leading outstanding faculty and staff to their potential as academicians. Accelerating research growth and capability is a strategic priority. Developing, maintaining, and enriching relationships with partners at the academic-practice interface, including health systems, corporate and independent pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and other stakeholders is essential to the departments success. The chair reports directly to the Dean and is a member of the Colleges Executive Committee.

In addition to administrative and academic leadership duties, the chair will participate in didactic education, collaborative scholarly activity, service to the College and profession, and represent the Dean at campus, state, and national levels when requested.

Qualifications

Successful candidate must be a pharmacist with a terminal doctorate degree from an accredited institution (Pharm.D. or Ph.D.), post-doctoral training and experience sufficient to qualify for associate or full professor with demonstrated success in teaching, scholarship, and service. Additional qualities include:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate a vision for success;
  • The ability to lead, empower, and inspire faculty, staff, and students;
  • Experience with supervision and budget management;
  • Experience with post-graduate residency programs and/or graduate education;
  • Experience with accreditation standards;
  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation;
  • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Preferred qualifications include credentials to qualify for a tenure-track full professor.
