Support the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Solution Expert for Cerner providing Cerner expertise, support, and knowledge transfer sessions to the National Council Chair and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) solution experts in the following activities:

Note - this is a remote position working primarily EST but could move to on-site work in Kansas City.

Key technical experience:

  • 3 years' experience with Cerner Millennium PharmNet configuration and workflows
  • Analysis and development of Current/Future State workflows required
  • Strong leadership, written/oral communications, analysis, data gathering and organization skills.
  • Able to assess functional community inputs/requirements against solution framework to develop and map a business-driven IT roadmap
  • Experience managing functional validation and end user testing for Cerner (or other EHR) and integrated third party solutions
  • Knowledge of Order Catalog (dcptool)
  • Maintenance of Physician Order Sets and PowerPlans
  • Understanding of Linking of the Pharmacy Products to the Order Catalog
  • Knowledge of Multum updates
  • Cerner EMR experience in PharmNet/PowerChart

Key duties:

  • Support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program as a Solution Expert providing Cerner expertise, support, and knowledge transfer sessions to the national and regional Councils/local workshops, and VA solution experts.
  • Support translation of Cerner capabilities and nomenclature to enable VA understanding in partnership with the Solution Expert.
  • Bring the VA-assigned solution experts up to speed in their respective areas with solution knowledge.
  • Review and help the Council Admins with the task orders and deliverables, and ensure they are received on time and are completed accurately per program office requirements.
  • Provide support to the Council Admins and members by assisting in the current state workflow/requirements analysis.
  • Assist in review of DoD lessons learned and help incorporate findings into VA workflows.
  • Attend Cerner workshops and assist/support VA staff attending the event.
  • Assist in future state workflow design and diagrams. Identify potential risks and pain points in the workflows.
  • Assist in mapping VA staff roles to Cerner security roles.
  • Help define interface specifications and requirements for other vendors.
  • Assist in reporting requirements/mapping/identification.
  • Assist in the development of CMO testing scripts and support all CMO testing types and CMO testing events.
  • Review and assist in managing issues and risks with mitigation plans.
  • Work with Cerner and VA in build/design/workflow changes.
  • Assist in the review of training manuals and job aids delivered by Cerner.
  • Assist and support in designing cutover/go live planning and post go live support.
  • Provide solution knowledge expertise on Cerner Medical Device connectivity and interfaces.

The Cerner Solution Expert will execute various aspects of a complex healthcare modernization project. A successful candidate will have experience communicating and collaborating around technology adoption, specifically around Cerner EHR. They will also be well versed in lifecycle and project management methodologies (e.g. Scrum, PMP), and have experience working with clinical subject matter experts as well as IT subject matter experts. They will also be effective at identifying, managing, and mitigating risks.

Experience with Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) legacy EHR Vista, the commercial software - Cerner Millennium, Cerner PowerChart, or Department of Defense (DOD) EHR - DHMSM - MHS Genesis is considered a strong plus!

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience is required. An additional 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • Must plan, design, and oversee deployment of complex enterprise-wide or large-scale information architectures including EHRs (Electronic Health Records), software, and interface components
  • Can identify necessary interfaces between enterprise solution applications and legacy IT environments
  • Can support all program/project planning and milestone development and business case analysis and identification of alternative solutions and resulting business impacts
  • Experience validating and testing various EHR capabilities/solutions and assessing impacts, preferably with Cerner

Experience Preferred:

  • Preferred Millennium experience on code levels 2018 or higher
  • Preferred understanding of Cerner Pharmacy Model recommendations
  • Preferred Pharm Tech credentials
  • Expertise with Cerner PowerChart solution in both Nursing and Provider documentation to include: Documentation Powerforms and iView; Table of Contents; Care Compass; Tasks; IPOCs; Dynamic Documentation; Clinical Workflows-Acute and Ambulatory; Care Pathways; mPages; Orders and Powerplans; Preferences/Privileges; Rules & reporting; Provider Message Center; 3rd party interfaces.
  • Experience with the Department of Veteran's Affairs, Department of Defense (DoD)
  • Experience with Vista EHR, Cerner Millennium, or DOD EHR - DHMSM - MHS Genesis
  • Experience working within Healthcare field (EHR, EMR)
  • Experience working within the federal government
  • Experience performing Risk Management
  • Project Management with special consideration to Health Integration projects preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • ScrumMaster (CSM), Scrum Coach, and/or prior assistance with agile transformations
  • Experience with data management, data quality, data security, and data migration projects

Additional Skills Preferred:

  • Experience working within Healthcare field
